Reims: A French Art Deco period lithograph by Adrien Senechal, circa 1940.

The artist Senechal (1895-1974) lived his entire live in the city of Reims; in 1919 he created a series of 18 pastels representing the burning of the Reims cathedral during World War I. In contrast, this later piece is testament to the city's rebirth. The city's motto "Dieu en Soit Garde," (god preserves) as well as the city's laurel leaf emblems, are prominently displayed, along with symbols of industry, modern transportation, and, of course the rebuilt cathedral.
