Iris: Very large Italian Art Nouveau period poster by Aldolfo Hohenstein, 1898. This brilliantly colored piece advertises a performance of the opera "Iris" by Pietro Mascagni, which premiered at the Teatro Costanzi in Rome. Very rare.
German born Hohenstein (1854-1928) was an exponent of the "Stile Liberty" movement (the Italian equivalent of Art Nouveau.) He is considered one of the most important Italian poster designers.
