Maquette: An original gouache by Leonetto Cappiello, early 20th Century. This is most probably a maquette (i.e. a small scale draft of a poster design to be presented to a client.) Presumably, this joyous dance of a lovely woman and Pierrot was intended to advertise the liquor held in the pantomimist's hand, however, it appears that no such poster was ever published.

Cappiello (1875-1942) is lauded as "the father of the modern poster."

Unframed dimensions are 8 7/8" x 5 3/4.".
