Satyr and Bacchante:  "Satyr and Bacchante," a gouache on paper by Michelangelo Maestri, circa 1790. Maestri (1741-1812) was born in Rome and lived there as a painter and engraver. He is known for images that were derived from murals discovered when the city of Herculaneum was partially excavated, having been covered in ash since the eruption of Mount Vesuvius.
