Antar: A French Art Deco period opera poster by Maurice Dufrene, 1921. This is an advertisement for a production of "Antar," an opera in four acts composed by Gabriel Dupont, with lyrics by M. Chekri Ganem. The story is based on an old Arab legend. Dupont wrote the piece c. 1912-1914, but it did not premier until after his death.
French born Dufrene (1876-1955) was a decorative artist who not only created posters, but furniture, objects and theatre sets as well. He is considered a master of Art Deco design.
