Woman Draped in Cloth: Although Chéret (1836-1932) is credited with being "the father of the advertising poster," he created purely decorative pieces as well. Being freed from the constraints of having to sell a product, he produced imaginative pieces that would adorn the walls of Parisian home for years to come. This work may have been an exercise in drawing, or perhaps a preliminary sketch for a later work.
