Chevaux: "Chevaux," an original pencil drawing by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, 1881. Lautrec (1864-1901) began drawing at a young age, when frequent illnesses kept him bedridden at his home in Albi. This piece was produced when he was in his teens. His favorite juvenile subject was the horse, this may have been due to the influence of his teacher, René Princeteau, who painted fashionable sporting pictures. His fascination with horses continued throughout his short career.
