Andrea Doria: An Italian poster advertising the "Andrea Doria" ocean liner, c. 1953. The "Andrea Doria" was part of the Italian line "Societa di Navigazione Italia," home ported in Genoa. Launched in 1951, the ship undertook its maiden voyage in 1953. Of all Italy's ships at the time, the Andrea Doria was considered the largest, fastest, and supposedly safest. In 1956, the ship collided with the MS Stockholm in what became one of history's most infamous maritime disasters.
Giovanni Patrone (1904-1963) was an Italian born artist best known for his ship posters.
