Ernst Wahliss Heron & Frog Vase: Austrian "Heron and Frog" Porcelain Vase by Ernst Wahliss, c. 1899-1900. Neck of furled reed leaves with applied heron. Body of vase with relief water plants and frogs. Wahliss (1838-1900) presided over the largest porcelain department store in Vienna, commissioning custom made products from various local manufacturers. He purchased the Turin factory of Alfred Stellmacher in 1894, renaming it the Ernst Wahliss Company; the company consistently produced a varied line of products that won numerous international awards. His sons continued to operate the factory after his death until it permanently closed in 1929.
