Jeanne D'Arc: A stunning French art nouveau period two sheet poster by Georges de Feure, 1896. Here, an unusual frontal view of Jeanne d'Arc against an umber background is used to advertise a fabric store owned by Astre et Soux in Carcassone, France.
Georges de Feure (1868-1943) was a French born painter and designer in the Symbolist and Art Nouveau styles. He showed work at the Exposition Universalle in Paris and was the key designer for the renowned Siegfried Bing Gallery "La Maison de L'Art Nouveau." De Feure captured the "feminine mystique" perhaps better than any other poster artist. Here, he portrays the saint as something of a femme fatale.
