Maggio Musicale Fiorentino: Italian "Futurist" style poster by Lucio Venna (pseudonym of Joseph Landsmann), 1935. This is an advertisement for the "Maggio Musicale Fiorentino," an annual musical festival in Florence which began in 1933 and continues to the present day. The Roman numeral XIII in the piece indicates that the event took place in the 13th year of Mussolini's reign.
Lucio Venna (1897-1974) began his career as a painter, but by 1922 devoted most of his energies to creating poster art. He was one of the most notable proponents of Italy's "Futurist" movement.
