Dancer with Tambourine: "Dancer with Tambourine," a large scale oil on canvas by Rene Pean, early 1900s.
Born in Paris, Pean (1875 - 1955) was both a skilled painter and lithographer. A student of Jules Cheret, Pean began his career creating posters in Cheret's Chaix workshop. Cheret's influence may also be seen in this painting of an ethereal dancer seemingly suspended in the air.Painting is signed lower right.
